Katie's Review

By day, Jo is the poorly treated lady’s maid for cruel Caroline Payne, but at night she is a budding journalist with a fantastic following.

Using a pseudonym to keep her identity a secret, she doles out advice on how to be a “genteel Southern” lady.  However, when her popular column addresses racism and sexism in the city, people begin clamoring to figure out who “Miss Sweetie” really is.  Add to that a mysterious letter that leads her on a hunt for the parents who abandoned her as a baby, and Jo suddenly finds her very private life becoming anything but.

A wonderful look at how race, class, and gender shaped the south after the Civil War and one powerful young woman who stood up for her rights.
